Mindfulness / Heartfulness is universal
Mindfulness is the quality of being mindful, which all of us possess to a greater or lesser extent.
It is also the practice of paying full attention to our thoughts, feelings and experiences in the present moment, on purpose and without judging them.
The aim is to nurture greater awareness, clarity and acceptance.
Similarly to mandalas, mindfulness is rooted in the Buddhist tradition.
Jon Kabat Zinn, an acclaimed American scientist and writer, brought mindfulness to the West. He is a founder of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction technique, which is used to support the treatment of anxiety and depression.
Meditation, contemplation and mindfully performed activities improve focus and the capacity of the mind to be still, contributing to the robustness of mindfulness.
And again like mandalas, mindfulness is universal and does not conflict with any religious traditions.
Kabat Zinn uses the word 'heart' and refers to mindfulness as 'heartfulness'.
He says: 'In Asian languages, the word for 'mind' and the word for 'heart' are the same.
So if you're not hearing mindfulness in some deep way as heartfulness, you're not really understanding it. Compassion and kindness towards oneself are intrinsically woven into it. You could think of mindfulness as wise and affectionate attention'.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that vocal prayer, meditation and contemplative prayer have in common the 'recollection of the heart'.
Heart Healing Mandalas

The heart is also a central component in my innovative Heart Healing mandala series. Its purpose is to express and heal a wide range of emotions and feelings in order to achieve balance.
I hope that the themes of the Heart Healing mandalas will inspire you to take care of your feelings with full acceptance and self-compassion.
The Mindfulness Initiative in the British Parliament
The Mindfulness Initiative was founded in 2013 to support British politicians in forming the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Mindfulness.
'We believe that capacities of heart and mind can and should be central to public policy making' - emphazises the home page of their website.
Mindful Nation UK report highlighted the importance of mindfulness for health and well-being.
'Building the case for mindfulness in the workplace' stressed the need for mindfulness training in companies and organisations.
The document has been developed by a volunteer working group that is made up of champions from private sector companies including BT, EY, GE, GSK, HSBC and Jaguar Land Rover, supported by leading workplace mindfulness trainers and researchers.
Fashion- inspired definition
of mindfulness
I enjoy expressing my creativity in many ways, and clothes is one of them.
It may surprise you a little but it is actually fashion that has inspired my statement of the highly fashionable mindfulness.
I will be delighted to share with you a mandala magic and my very own definition of mindfulness during one of my workshops.
I very much hope to see you soon!
